Creighton Lovdahl

C. Creighton Lovdahl, age 91, of Monmouth, Illinois; passed away at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 5:10 A.M. Creighton was born on September 8, 1925 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Chalmer August and Rachael Rebecca (Monticue) Lovdahl. He attended schools in the rural Monmouth area and graduated from Monmouth High School with the Class of 1943. Creighton also attended Western Illinois University for a time. Creighton proudly served his Country in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a paymaster in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enoree. On June 29, 1947, he married Barbara L. Icenogle in Monmouth, Illinois and she is surviving. Creighton began work at the F.W. Woolworth store as a stockman for a number of years. He then started his own business with his brother Martin called "Mail Me Monday"  here in Monmouth, IL. He then was part of Lovdahl Brothers Bookkeeping and Tax Services for forty-four years locally. He was then partners with Bob Shimmin and Kathie Arthur at Lovdahl and Shimmin Bookkeeping and Tax Services in Security Savings and Loan of Monmouth,IL. Creighton retired at the age of 81. He was a master woodworker, enjoyed bowling, and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved his family, grandchildren, and all kids for whom he would have a piece of hard candy. Creighton also participated in the Honor Flight on September 7, 2010 and was very proud of his service. He is survived by his wife Barbara of Monmouth, IL, two daughters; Linda (David) Lofdahl of Canadian Lakes, MI and Kathie (Richard) Arthur of Monmouth, IL, three sons; Michael Lovdahl of Huntsville, AL, Jon (Vicki Haase) Lovdahl  of Monmouth, IL, and Brian (Amy) Lovdahl of Champaign, IL. There are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are surviving. Also, one sister, Becky (Henry) Hartman of Kansas, and one brother, Cecil (Kay) Lovdahl of Monmouth, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Mary Kay Jones, his sisters; Bessie, Blanche, and Elizabeth,  his brothers; John Martin, Ted, Jim, and two grandsons; Joe and Josh.


His family will be present to receive friends at visitation from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth. 

Funeral Service

A funeral service is planned for 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at the Heritage Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park in Monmouth. A memorial is being established for the Heritage Presbyterian Church.
