Roy E. Van Tine, age 100, of Stronghurst, Illinois, formerly of Oquawka, passed away at 3:30 AM on Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Illinois. He was born February 26, 1917 in Gladstone, Illinois, the son of Truman and Pearl (White) Van Tine. Roy attended Hopper School. On December 20, 1936, Roy married Wilma M. Forgey in Biggsville, Illinois and she preceded him in death on December 30, 2016. Roy began employment as a farmhand, where his wages were $1.50 per day. He also worked at Weir's apple orchard where he picked apples for 3 cents a bushel. He then worked at I.A.A.P. in Middletown, Iowa. Roy farmed the rest of his life, retiring at the age of 90. He was a director on the local school board and was a Republican Committeeman for 25 years. He and his wife Wilma headed the Republican Fish Fry for many years. Roy was a Master Mason with the Lodge in Oquawka, IL for 63 years. He is survived by two daughters; Joan (Russell) Puckett of Prophetstown, IL and Karen Schulze of Gladstone, IL, one son, Terry (Billie) Van Tine of Monticello, IL, foster daughter Phyllis (Duane) Robb of Mt. Vernon, IL, foster son Dan (Donna) Bielser of Gladstone, IL, eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving Roy are one sister, Helen Van Tine of Stronghurst and one brother, Gerald Van Tine of Gladstone, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma, six sisters, three brothers, and son-in-law Bob Schulze.
Roy's family will be present for visitation from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the Church.
A funeral service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Gladstone United Methodist Church in Gladstone, Illinois. Interment will be in the Biggsville Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the Gladstone United Methodist Church.
